چکیده

There have been presented many theories concerning the mechanism of Gram stain, and its technique has also been modified by numerous investigators. I found, however, none about the correlation between Hofineister's series and Gram stain being studied as yet. The former is called as•gLyotrophic series•hand is so important in the colloidchemistry and many other biological phenomena. This communication reports the beautiful correlation between them and some new staining techiques without using iodine, though inferior to that using it.

مقایسه لام های تماسی و برشهای بافتی با استفاده از روشهای رنگ آمیزی مختلف در تشخیص عفونت پنوموسیستیس کارینی

Background & Aims: Pneumocystis carinii is an opportunist extracellular microorganism. The body can defend itself against it in natural conditions. But it can cause an infection in immunodificient conditions such as HIV, Hodgkins and other immunosuppressed diseases. The aim of this study was to apply a comparison of different staining methods such as Methenamine silver, Giemsa, Gram - Weigert, ...

Is the gram stain useful in the microbiologic diagnosis of VAP? A meta-analysis.

In a meta-analysis examining respiratory specimen Gram stain for diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia, absence of bacteria on Gram stain had a high negative predictive value, but a positive Gram stain correlated poorly with organisms recovered in culture. Rapid and accurate diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a major challenge and no generally accepted gold standard ex...

Gram stain of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in the early diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia.

To assess the usefulness of the Gram stain in the early diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), we performed 146 protected specimen brushings (PSB) and bronchoalveolar lavages (BAL) in 118 patients suspected of having nosocomial pneumonia. Gram stain and counts of infected cells were performed in all samples from BAL fluid. A final diagnosis of pneumonia was established in 51 patien...

Quantitative Studies of Differential Staining Reactions

It has been shown previously (Kennedy and Barbaro, 1953) that the amount of crystal violet adsorbed by bacteria can be measured quantitatively by either one of two procedures. One procedure involved micro-Kjeldahl analyses of bacterial cells before and after staining. The increase in total nitrogen in the stained cells represented the dye nitrogen adsorbed. The second procedure was based on mic...

Bacteriology of Wound - Clinical Utility of Gram Stain Microscopy and the Correlation with Culture

Results: Out of a total of 1970 specimens, 1094 (55.5 %) were positive by culture. A total of 1462 strains were isolated: 753 Gram positive (Gram+), 661 Gram negative (Gram-) and 48 anaerobic bacteria. The number of specimens yielding one, two or more different strains was 788, 244 and 62, respectively. Gram + bacteria, in 44.7 % of positive samples were a single isolate. The most commonly isol...
